Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro atrai público com concertos ao meio-dia e ingressos a partir de R$2

The Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro is bringing back its Municipal at Noon project, offering lunchtime concerts right in the heart of downtown Rio de Janeiro for as little as R$2. This initiative aims to attract new audiences and retain those who may not have much time or money to attend full-length performances. The historic building, which is a tourist attraction in the bustling Cinelândia region, is once again hosting these midday concerts.

The presentation on Thursday (6) will showcase “The Golden Sinfonismo of Brazilian Concert Music from the 19th and 20th Centuries.” The program will feature works by renowned Brazilian symphonic composers, with performances by the Municipal Chorus and Symphony Orchestra.

The president of the foundation that manages the Municipal Theatre, Clara Paulino, emphasized the opportunity for the public to enjoy a high-level concert of Brazilian music for just R$2. The artistic director of the theatre, Eric Herrero, highlighted that the program includes a revival of works that have been absent from public performance for some time, such as “Arthemis” by Alberto Nepomuceno and “Jupyra” by Francisco Braga.

In addition to the lunchtime concerts, there will also be evening performances on Friday (7) starting at 7 pm, with ticket prices ranging from R$15 to R$60. This second show is a benefit concert for the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra (Ospa). Attendees who bring non-perishable food items or cleaning products to the theatre’s box office will receive discounted tickets equivalent to half-price.

The proceeds from these donations will be sent to Rio Grande do Sul, which is facing the consequences of a recent natural disaster that has left many residents displaced. Clara Paulino expressed the Municipal Theatre’s pride in helping the people of the southern region during this difficult time.

The concerts will be conducted by maestro Ricardo Rocha, who has a prolific career in Brazil and has also promoted Brazilian music abroad. This initiative seeks to showcase Brazil’s rich cultural heritage through classical music.

Overall, the Municipal at Noon and evening concert series at the Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro offer a unique opportunity for audiences to experience the beauty of Brazilian symphonic music while contributing to a charitable cause.
